We know from a wealth of research that parental engagement works and that it can work on different levels.
The most important thing is to let your child know that what they do in school is important to you. On a very simple level we can do this by talking to our children about what they have done in school. This doesn’t want to be an inquisition however, just one or two well-timed questions are all that’s needed.
This need not take hours. You’d be amazed how by talking about school for just a couple of minutes a few times a week, when there’s something to talk about, you can help your child’s achievement. Some estimates show that it can range from a whole GCSE grade to as much as 3 month's additional achievement in any one year.
